Journalism for Juniors (J4J) is one of TRT’s social awareness initiatives that goes beyond its human-centered journalism and broadcasting approach. The project aims to contribute to addressing global humanitarian challenges and fostering a culture of coexistence through youth engagement and media literacy.
Since 2017, J4J has been organizing Mobile Journalism Workshops for young people. Through these workshops, participants are introduced to the fundamentals of journalism while developing skills in written and verbal storytelling, as well as video production and editing using mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
J4J encourages young people to discover and develop their storytelling abilities and empowers them to share their voices and stories with the world through digital platforms.
With the support of national and international partners, the project has reached thousands of young participants from diverse social backgrounds and geographical regions through workshops organized in educational institutions both in Türkiye and abroad.
Purpose
The main objective of the Journalism for Juniors Project is to help young people recognize their potential to create meaningful change in the world and to encourage them to use the power of digital media to promote universal human values and collective social awareness.
Guided by the philosophy that “everyone has a story, and everyone should be able to tell it,” J4J focuses on empowering young individuals to become not only the subjects of news but also its storytellers. The project encourages participants to develop awareness of their role in society and to amplify the voices of those who may otherwise remain unheard.
Target Audience
The Journalism for Juniors Mobile Journalism Workshops primarily target young people between the ages of 15 and 22 who are studying in Türkiye and around the world.
While the project is open to participants from all socio-economic backgrounds, it prioritizes reaching young people from underprivileged communities, including migrants, refugees, minorities, and youth living in challenging socio-economic conditions, particularly in developing and less-developed regions.
